The PADI Advanced course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. An Adventure Dive concentrates on a particular activity or skill within the realm of scuba.
You don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification.
While you’re doing your AOW dives, you’ll be accompanied by a PADI Professional. They are there to answer questions and help you fine-tune your technique and learn new skills.
*Must be Open Water certified to begin this course
*Must be 12 years old to begin.

- About The Course
The dives in the Advanced Diver course are very different from those from your Open Water course. The Adventure Dives are similar to a regular dive, except that you focus on a particular diving specialty.
Of the five training dives you complete, the Deep Adventure Dive and Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive are both mandatory. As for the other three dives, you get to choose what interests you the most. Students in the AOW Diver course have very little classroom time and no written exams.

What to expect:
Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center is proud to have all the amenities needed for your course in ONE LOCATION with FREE parking in the heart of South Beach! This makes for a very stress free learning experience. Once you've checked in on the morning of class we will sit back in The Lagoon Lounge for a relaxing review of the materials you've completed, after that will build upon your experience in the beautiful Atlantic Ocean for your Certification dives.
At Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center we strive to provide you with the best experience possible. We make every effort to do all 5 Certification Dives (plus 1 bonus dive) from a Boat in the Ocean! No murky lakes or chilly quarry's unless weather makes it the only option for completion.
We typically perform this course during three, half day excursions. This is most commonly scheduled for Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning & Wednesday Night. Advanced Open Water is flexible and can be tailored to your needs, so please call (305) 532-1445 for any special accommodations.
What you will learn:
You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
The other knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have – photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks and many more.
You may be able to get college credit for the Advanced Open Water Diver course.
What scuba gear will you use?
Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and dive knife or dive tool. You’ll also use specialized gear depending on the Adventure Dives you choose. For example, you’d obviously use a dry suit for the Dry Suit Adventure Dive or a sidemount configuration during the Sidemount Adventure Dive. Your PADI Instructor will explain the equipment that you need and may suggest additional gear, such as dive light for night diving or lift bag for search and recovery diving.
Visit us at Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center to learn more about the gear you will need to start your adventures in the Advanced Open Water Diver course.
Choosing and using your scuba gear is part of the fun of diving. In Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center we will help you find the right gear. Each piece of scuba equipment has a different function so that together, it adapts you to the underwater world.
For Advanced Course as a minimum, you'll want your own:

Consider investing in all your own scuba equipment when you start your course because:
- You’re more comfortable learning to scuba dive using gear you’ve chosen.
